Everyone knows that flossing your teeth is good for getting the bits of food and detritus out from between your teeth. There are lots of tools out there for you to floss with and it is something you should be doing every day.

But did you know that by regularly flossing your teeth it can help prevent the onset of heart disease.

American scientists have been studying people with gum disease, flossing twice a day will help prevent gum disease, are almost twice as likely to suffer from coronary heart disease as againts those who don't suffer from gum disease and gingivitis.

It is believed the flossing of your teeth twice a day will help prevent the potentially harmful bacterias that can occur being released into your bodies bloodstream.

Currently they are not sure exactly how and why this occurs but extensive studies of people with heart disease have shown twice as many have poor gum health than those without. They think that the hramful bacteria that flossing can help lessen trigger or speed up the thickening of the bodies arteries which can lead to the occurence of heart disease. It can also lead to blood clots in the most extremes of cases.

Scientists also suggest that as well as flossing at least daily you should visit your dentist at least three time per year for a check up and oral examination to help prevent gum disease in its earliest stages. Asking your dentist to show you how to floss your teeth properly should also be high on your agenda when visiting the dentist. A lot of people don't know how to floss correctly and the dentist can you show you exactly how to floss your teeth in the most effective manner.

For the older generation there are available dental floss tools where the floss is already pre strung for you on a plastic grip that enables you to be able to floss in a more effective manner.

There will be some bleeding of the gums when you first start flossing but as the gums get healthier with regular flossing you will see the bleeding will stop.
